Francis Model Test

At the beginning of 2022, TEMSAN (Türkiye Electromechanic Industries Inc.) commissioned Prof. Dr. Jaberg und Partner GmbH to support the modernisation of the Francis turbine units for the HPP Hirfanli in Turkey, south-east of Ankara.

The **activities** include the **mechanical calculation and CFD-based development of the hydraulics**, as well as **all model-measurements according to IEC standards**. We are pleased that the model test was successfully and on schedule completed at the beginning of January 2023. This was carried out in the laboratory of the Institute of Hydraulic Fluid Machinery at Graz University of Technology. The model test confirmed the demanding CFD design with regard to efficiency and especially cavitation.

The Hirfanli power plant was built between 1953 and 1959 and commissioned in 1960. It has 4 Francis units with a total capacity of 128 MW.
