International User Forum Small Hydropower Plants 2025

24 & 25 September 2025 | Forum Landquart

For more than 25 years, the International User Forum has focused on small-scale hydropower and brought together experts from across the German-speaking Alpine region with the common goal of further expanding the share of small-scale hydropower in the energy mix.

We are delighted to be participating in this year's conference with two specialist presentations.

Potential assessment studies for the refurbishment of hydropower plants

Jürgen Schiffer will talk about “Potential assessment studies as a basis for the refurbishment of hydropower plants” and provide insight into how targeted potential analyses not only increase the economic success of refurbishment projects, but also make a significant contribution to the sustainable use of hydropower. Both methodological approaches and concrete examples from practice will be presented to illustrate the importance and impact of potential assessment studies for the future of existing hydropower plants.

Pressure surge analysis in small hydropower plants

Stefan Höller's presentation addresses the question “Is a professional pressure surge analysis also useful for small hydropower plants?” He presents specific examples of initially inconspicuous plant problems that were successfully solved by means of a professional pressure surge calculation.

Professional exchange and networking in the Alpine region

In addition to the presentations, the International User Forum Small Hydropower Plants offers a valuable platform for technical discussions, networking and knowledge exchange. We look forward to many exciting discussions, new contacts and working together to advance the future of small hydropower.
