HYDRO 2018 in Gdansk

With two contributions by Jaberg & Partner

Gdansk is situated on Poland’s Baltic Coast and the Vistula river mouth. Besides the colourful facades and the historic buildings, this city impresses with many other places worth to see and the important role that it has played in the history of Poland.

From October 15th to 17th there is another good reason for a trip to this beautiful city. It’s Gdansk will welcome hydropower experts from more than 75 nations in the context of the Hydro 2018 exhibition and conference in the AMBEREXPO exhibition and congress center.

The main focuses of the Hydro 2018 are i.a. helping less developed countries to unlock their hydro potential, maximizing the potential to increase hydro capacity in industrialized countries as well as the timely maintenance of existing hydro assets.

We are happy to attend at the conference with two contributions. Our colleague Dr.techn. Jürgen Schiffer-Rosenberger presents “Reliable prediction of pressure pulsations in the draft tube of a Francis turbine at medium and deep part load: A validation of CFD-results with experimental data”

The presentation covers the research results of the comparison of the pressure pulsations in the draft tube of a Francis-Turbine, calculated by means of CFD and measured on the test rig which decisively helps to improve part load operation for Francis turbines.

The presentation of Mr. Stefan Höller-Litzlhammer shows how a simultaneous increase in performance and flexibility has been achieved with the help of modern techniques in waterhammer simulation. The theme of his presentation: “Repowering existing HPP infrastructure for the next 70 years: Retrofit of the St. Anton Hydro Power Plant with increased power output and flexibility”

By the way - currently Poland has six pumped storage plants. On the southern shore of Lake Zarnowice, about 80 km north-eastern of Gdansk, you can find presently the largest plant with an output of 716 MW. Please note: We comprehensively investigated the Francis pump turbine of the Zarnowice pump storage plant for Andritz Hydro. Additionally the small hydropower produces currently about 994 MW in Poland.

You can’t attend the conference? Nevertheless, stay connected with us and subscribe to our newsletter. We would be glad to provide our presentations for your reference after the Hydro 2018.
