Hydro 2024 Graz

18 – 20 November 2024 | Messe Congress Graz

Hydro 2024 is organised under the motto "Safe technology for turbulent times" and is dedicated to the current aspects of hydropower, dam construction and the development of pumped storage. Over 30 specialist presentations will cover topics such as potential and prospects, challenges of the energy transition, new technologies, safety and risks.

We are delighted to be able to contribute two technical papers to the conference. Jürgen Schiffer's presentation deals with optimising and developing a Francis turbine for operation at full and part load, which previously suffered massive erosion damage during the operation. His presentation, "Customised design optimisation of a Francis turbine with massive erosion damage - Development of a high-load and part-load runner", will take place on Monday, 18 November in Session 2: Hydraulic machinery - I.

Stefan Höller will speak on Tuesday, 19 November, in Session 18: Spillways, gates and valves about the numerical simulation of an emergency shut-off valve at the Limberg III pumped storage power plant. His topic is: "Increasing the Safety of Limberg III Power Plant: Numerical Simulation of Emergency Shut-off Valves".

We would be pleased to welcome you to our booth no. 119. We look forward to the professional exchange and many interesting discussions.

Worth knowing:

Austria has a long hydropower heritage. More than 60% of the country’s electricity comes from hydro, which corresponds to a capacity of almost 15 GW. Four new pumped storage power plants are currently under construction, including Limberg III, and others are in the planning stage, such as the Kaunertal power plant (1015 MW) in Tyrol and Ebensee (170 MW) in Upper Austria.

In addition, Verbund is continuously investing in the construction of small and medium-sized run-of-river power plants. Verbund is also focusing on upgrading and repowering existing plants, as well as testing new storage technologies.
