For a well-known Austrian power plant operator, a hydraulic optimisation of the distribution pipeline for a ternary machine set was carried out using computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
The main objective was to minimise the pressure losses for various operating modes of the plant. To address the changing energy-economic conditions, the new design was particularly optimised for a continued pump and turbine operation (hydraulic circuit closure).
Thanks to the extensive expertise of our employees in the field of piping, it was possible to develop a piping design that fulfils all customer requirements in terms of hydraulic behaviour and also enables cost-effective production. The adaptation of the pipework design will be implemented as part of a comprehensive refurbishment project on the existing system.
